What to do with a Garage Door Condemned by the Ice

Is winter your favorite season? It's not ours either. Of course, winter can be fun during skating, sleighing or skiing sessions, but snow storms are not very enjoyable.

Follow our preventive tips and make sure your garage door gets the maintenance it needs to keep it in good working order all winter long. If you are unlucky and your door is already trapped in the ice, read on to find out how to clear it. I remember that last time in winter 2017, when i had a garage door torsion problem, i asked an online US company, which helped me in fixing the issues. It was an amazing experience, they told me garage door safety in winter season. You my visit them by clicking on this website. No doubt, Diy-garage-door-parts is one of the best garage door company in all over the United States of America.

What to do if your garage door is doomed by the ice

We recommend that you do not attempt to open your garage door with the automatic garage door opener . This could cause overwork of the engine which may not respond properly.
Step 1: Make sure the garage door is not locked. Leave the side latch and the lock button on the wall console in the open position.
Step 2: Disable your automatic door opener and pull the emergency release string, this will allow you to open your garage door manually. The emergency release string is normally equipped with a red handle and can be located near the center of the garage door. You can now try to free the bottom of your ice door.
Step 3: Inspect the entire operating system to make sure the door is not obstructed. Also check that no parts are broken.

Alternatives to get rid of ice:

·         To melt ice, you can try using a dryer. Do not hold it in one place for too long and do not adjust the heat to a setting that is too high as this could damage your door.
·         While taking care not to damage the door, you can crush the ice with a hammer, knife or screwdriver. Make sure to wear safety glasses as the ice will probably fly in all directions.
·         Hot water can also be used to melt the ice. Have someone test the opening of the door while you pour water along the base of the door. Once the door is released, dry the rubber seal and do not let the door come in contact with the water again so that it does not freeze again.

Preventive tips

·         Use a shovel or snowblower to clear the space near your garage door. You do not want the snow to accumulate, since this is how ice is created.
·         Open and close your garage door daily during the winter. It does not matter if you have to go out or not, opening your door regularly will prevent it from sticking to the icy floor and warm up the operating system.
·         To prevent potential problems, you can cover the rubber seal at the bottom of your garage door with a silicone spray. The silicone will prevent the door from adhering to the ice.
·         To make sure you do not have a major problem during the winter, be sure to provide proper maintenance at your garage door throughout the year. At Pro-Fix Belair Garage Doors Inc., we can ensure that your garage door is working properly and is ready for the cold season. We will lubricate the important parts and inspect each of the metal components to ensure that none are worn or damaged.

Things need to consider before Buying a new Garage Door

Decided to change your garage door? Since the purchase of a garage door is not recurrent, we have highlighted five points to consider before choosing.

Your motivations

Why a new garage door? The color of your current garage door is depressing you? The temperature of your garage is overly cold? Do you have pain in your shoulders and arms because you have to force to open your door? Tired of maintaining your garage door? Simple but essential questions to ask before going to the manufacturer

Training room or DIY workshop?

Some will use their garage just to park their car, but others will want to turn it into a training room or DIY workshop. Depending on your project, you are looking for different criteria for your future garage door. In this sense, if you want to remodel your garage in the training room, you will have to look for a garage door with good sealing and good insulation.

Functionality, aesthetics and budget

These are the three main criteria to check when buying your garage door.
In more detail, the functionality relates to robustness, durability, safety, insulation, sealing, ease of maintenance, product and installation warranty, manufacturer and installer reputation, and the ability to add or change a door opener.
Aesthetics are also important, especially if you want your garage door to blend in with the architectural style of your home or stand out in design.
Finally, how much are you willing to invest for your new garage door? For small budgets, there are garage doors less than $ 1,000.

Garage doors made of wood, metal or glazed aluminum

These are the three main types of garage doors that are found on the market.
The wooden garage door is highly valued by consumers for its natural look and traditional design. We find low-end garage doors, less expensive, and high-end, that is to say, solid wood, obviously more expensive. In return, the wooden door requires more maintenance to protect it from the weather.
Metal garage doors are also available in different manufacturing and insulation qualities. We find the metal doors, insulated with polystyrene or polyurethane and different thicknesses. This type of door is very popular because it requires almost no maintenance. As for prices, there are low-cost metal doors, but these are not isolated. If you are looking for good insulation and a good seal, we recommend a metal door 1 ¾ inch thick insulated with polyurethane foam.

Are you a fan of modern or contemporary style and your home reflects your tastes? Consider the glazed aluminum door. However, this type of door is expensive because of its high number of windows. Apart from these three models, there is also the fiberglass door and the PVC door. The first is very resistant, but expensive; the second is also resistant, but little or not isolated.

Aesthetics

If you want to increase the resale value of your home, consider replacing your existing garage door for a door displaying a beautiful design: real estate broker advice! Indeed, the garage door is one of the first things noticed by potential buyers who come to visit your house. To convince you even more, Remodeling Magazine has established that the return on investment (ROI) on a $ 1,000 investment for a new garage door is 91.5%.

For even more aesthetics, consider harmonizing your garage door with your front door. Garage has decided to harmonize two models of its garage doors (Vogt and Prestige) with those of Novatech.
If the garage door model does not have the color of your choice, you can use a specialist workshop to repaint the garage door.

Do not forget the design of the door. Several choices are offered to you, ranging from rustic patterns to clean lines. A large selection of decorative hardware is also available from various manufacturers.
The last question you have to ask yourself is: "Double door or two single doors? “ Practical and aesthetic side, we recommend the two single doors.
